Aegerter disappointed with qualifying, Mulhauser makes a step forward

18.04.2015

A podium in the first Grand Prix of the history of the team (3rd place in Qatar), a first row start (3rd position in qualifying) in the third race: Thomas Lüthi (Derendinger Racing Interwetten) had a superb day in Argentina, on a circuit where he struggled so much exactly a year ago. Seventeenth in the classification, Dominique Aegerter (Technomag Racing Interwetten) encountered problems due to the changing track conditions - it was a lot hotter during the qualifying than this morning in the third free practice - while his teammate Robin Mulhauser (Technomag Racing Interwetten) reacted very well (24th in the qualifying, 2 seconds off the pole) after a difficult start to the weekend. A sum-up of the day from the boss of the two teams, Frédéric Corminboeuf: "Tom is in the game. He forgot the problems he had in Texas (two technical problems in the qualifying session and a difficult first lap in the race), we are working in the right direction. This is a first front row start for us and certainly not the last this season. Dominique, after a great morning session, was a bit stiff this afternoon with different grip conditions. It is a pity because I am sure that he was ready for a Top-8. Still, I cannot wait to watch his race, I remember last year he struggled in practice and qualified 16th on the grid and he finished 4th in the race despite some problems with the bike. I am happy to see that Robin made a step forward, he had a difficult start today but now he continues his journey toward the famous world championship points."

The start of the Moto2 Grand Prix of Argentina: tonight at 7:20pm Swiss time.

And they said...

Dominique Aegerter (Technomag Racing Interwetten, 17th): "I don't have a lot to say other than that I am very disappointed with my qualifying. What's bothering me the most is that this morning I was half a second quicker - Aegerter was seventh in the third free practice - and that I was not able to repeat the same lap time. With increased temperature something wasn't right. For sure I am able to gain places on the first lap of the race, for sure I am going to fight but it is never pleasant to start from so far behind."

Robin Mulhauser (Technomag Racing Interwetten, 24th): "This weekend is difficult for me. I am finding it hard to free myself on the bike and to ride like I know I am capable of and what hurts me the most is that I am finding it hard to tell my engineers what I feel and what I need to feel better on the bike. This afternoon the track had a lot less grip and it was ideal to do a fast lap time in the first couple of laps with new tires. But for me, I made it in the final minutes, it was my last shot and I was sliding a lot. The gaps are small so I hope to be able to fight with a good group tomorrow in the race."
