Aegerter injures a finger, Mulhauser pays for lost time

29.08.2015

In front of his home crowd, Sam Lowes from Britain scored a pole position, improving - as well as six of his colleagues - the lap record in the Moto2 class on this 5900 meters-long circuit of Silverstone (Great Britain). Strong throughout the whole qualifying session, Thomas Lüthi (Derendinger Racing Interwetten) finished fifth overall and will start from the middle of the second row of the starting grid on Sunday at 11:20 local time (12:20 Central European time). The session suddenly ended for Dominique Aegerter (Technomag Racing Interwetten) in the final moments where the rider from Rohrbach was following Tito Rabat, who crashed in front of him. Aegerter could not avoid a crash (a small fracture of a finger of his left hand). The day was difficult for Robin Mulhauser (Technomag Racing Interwetten), who crashed in the morning in the third free practice session and who will start from the 28th position of the starting grid on Sunday. The boss of the two Swiss teams, Frédéric Corminboeuf comments: "To qualify on the second row is always good. Tom made a big progress today in a category where lap records are being constantly beaten; the level is unbelievable and Lüthi confirms that he is one of the best. With him we will be seen in the race and I hope that until the end. Dominique was not lucky today: his progress compared to this morning was significant, he was on his way to maybe join Tom on the second row when Rabat crashed in front of him. It was simply impossible to avoid the bike of the Spaniard; Domi's speed is coming back, which is good news even though he will have to clench his teeth to resist the pain in the race. Robin completely wasted the first day of free practice and this morning he crashed again - his seventeenth crash of the season, which is too much. From now on the objective for him is to stay concentrated from the first until the last minute of the race weekend to avoid wasting time. It is a pity because we could see in Indianapolis that he was aiming in the right direction."

They said...

Dominique Aegerter (Technomag Racing Interwetten, 11th): "It is a pity because we improved many things for the qualifying session, I was a second quicker than in practice. On the final lap I was behind Rabat when he lost the front just in front of me. His bike went across the track and it was impossible for me to avoid him. Unfortunately I also ended up with a fractured second finger of my left hand, which hurts a lot. The times are really close, I still do not have the consistency that I want to be a Top-10 regular but the real problem in the race will be to resist the pain and to understand how my tires will behave throughout the race."

Robin Mulhauser (Technomag Racing Interwetten, 28th): "I am paying the price for wasting the whole of yesterday when I simply wasn't myself. And even worse, I crashed again this morning in the 12th corner, when I started to make a progress. It was one of the fastest corners of the circuit and I lost time again. After my crashes in Brno I have to get back into the game. This afternoon I did not know if I should ride by myself or if I should follow someone. I did not manage my time well and when I decided to go for it, I did not have much time left. Now I can imagine that the race will be different than practice knowing that some of my rivals probably only did one fast lap."
